The theme of World Day
to Combat desertification

A growing movement has emerged which places land at the heart of an effective response to many global problems. In part, this has been triggered by the reparatory process for the Rio+20 Summit, where the idea of a land-degradation neutral world took shape.I am very pleased to see that since then, many politicians, scientists and practitioners have committed to develop this innovative approach in really practical ways.

The theme of World Day
to Combat desertification

The theme of the 2013 World Day to Combat Desertification is drought and water scarcity. Freshwater is valuable Of all the water on Earth, only 2.5 percent is freshwater. And of all this freshwater, the total usable supply for ecosystems and humans is less than 1 percent. When demand for water exceeds available supply, it results in water scarcity.

Be part of the solution come a Dryland Champion !

Be part of the solution become a Dryland Champion ! Rio +20 recognized the need for action to reverse land degradation and called to strive to achieve a land-degradation neutral world. Combating land degradation is a challenging task but also an exciting endeavor. Why exciting?  Because implementing the UNCCD and achieving a land-degradation neutral world start literally on one's own doorstep.
