On 23 May 1996 , the Soil Museum at the Land Development Department was graciously opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn , who signed her name on a clay plate currently placed at the museum entrance. The Museum's goal is to serve as a center for learning about soil resources , survey techniques , soil problems and sustainable soil management. |

The museum depicts the history of the Land Develop Department , tools and equipment for soil survey , soil maps from various periods , parent materials of soil , morphology of certain soil types , simulation of soil sampling methods and soil simples of different soil groups and series. Moreover , typical problems encountered with common soil categories in Thailand are explained , including soil improvement methods for agriculture. |

The museum houses a database showing soil characteristics and soil properties , as well as several technical programs stored in a computer , relating to soil properties (DinThai) and fertilizer recommendations for various soil types. All of them , plus some other information , are available for visitors to try for themselves. |

The soil museum is located on the first floor of the 6-storey main building of Land Development Department , Phaholyothon Road , Chatuchak District , Bangkok 10900. It is open on Monday to Friday from 9.00 - 16.00 except holiday. |
