1. For paddy field
-In the irrigated area where soil pH is below 4.0 adding lime at 1.5 tons/rai is enough but at soil pH 4.0-4.5 the use of lime has to be abount 1 ton/rai
-In rainfed area where soil pH is below 4.0 lime has to be added at 2.5 tons/rai but at soil pH 4.0-4.5 the use of lime at 1.5 tons/rai is more appropriatesteps in revitalization of acid soil 1. after lime distribution, plough over
2. flood the water into the field (keep the flooded water in the field for 10 days)
3. drain the water to wash off acidity
4. flood water into the field again for cultivation
2. For vegetables and field crops2.1 set up draining canals between rows of soil, the depth of canal must reach the pyrite level
2.2 lime is added at 2-3 tons/rai or about 2 kg. per square meter of land, lime must be well mixed with the soil and left for 15 days before cultivation
2.3 organic or decomposed fertilizer is added at 5 tons/rai or 3 kg/sq.m one day before cultivation to make good soil structure
3.For fruit trees
3.1 large earth dike is built around the area to prevent flooding in the rainy
season . Draining apparatus has to be installed and ready to be use.
3.2 rows of soil for cultivation are set up
3.3 water in the draining canals will eventually become acid water. The acid water must be
drained out and flushed with fresh water every 3-4 months.
3.4 water level in the draining canals must be kept above pyrite muddy soil
to prevent soil acidity to occur.
3.5 marl or lime dust is distributed all over the cultivated soil at 1-2 tons/rai
3.6 space between plants is determined depending on the types of fruit trees
3.7 planting hole is dug with 50-100 cm. in width, depth, and length. Top and sup-soil from
the hole are separated and air-dried for 1-2 months to decontaminate the soil. The top soil is mixed with the manure or decomposed fertilizer and refill the plants hole. Decomposed fertilizer is used at 1 kg/tree by mixing with lime at 15 kg/hole.
